Care Farming at Knights Care Farm, Devon

Care Farming is a day-care service offered to individuals with a range of disabilities or social needs.

We teach agricultural skills and enable individuals to enjoy being part of a working farm. We have care plans individually designed to each client and support them to carry out many activities such as growing fruit & vegetables, gardening, and working with the livestock.

Carefarming in Devon is rewarding to all our clients. Everyone loves to get involved caring for our livestock. We are based on a commercial farm with over 200 ewes, 60 head of cattle, pigs and poultry;  depending on ability there is the chance to be involved in herding, mucking out, and feeding.  During lambing season, all help in even the simplest of ways with the lambs, some will even have one to one contact bottle feeding orphan lambs. Our Carefarm is developing all the time, all who come here are part of a team helping the farm to run.  It is a really healthy environment for anyone who loves animals and the outdoors.

How is the day structured?

Our clients arrive in the morning approximately 10:00 am.  The daily activities start and then mid-morning we usually enjoy a hot drink and home cooked treats. We all stop for a tasty farm lunch; this varies over the seasons as it is made using produce from the farm as much as is possible. Clients are welcome to supply their own lunch but we find generally they like to taste the fruits of their efforts! The day is drawn to a close around 4pm.

We are very flexible to each individual's requirements. If you are interested in our service for someone you know please do not hesitate to get in touch. Our services are adjusted to fit around individuals needs.

What do we do when it rains? Care Farming is sometimes limited by weather so we have many varied activities we enjoy doing with our clients. Knights farm has a designated recreational areas set up for wood work, art & crafts and other fun tasks. Seasonally we enjoy making cards, bird boxes and many other items.  We also make Kindling which is sold to locals all year round to earn money for more interesting things here at the farm. We are in the process of setting up a poly tunnel which provides perfect shelter and growing environment for daycare gardening.
